Shipping
TikTok Shop shipping cost can change the whole product
Shipping is easy to underestimate because it feels separate from the product. It is not separate. For low-ticket products, a few dollars of fulfillment cost can decide whether the product has room for creators or ads.
Use landed fulfillment cost
Do not use the cleanest possible shipping number. Use the number you expect after packaging, occasional problems, and small-order reality. The product should survive that number.
Where shipping hurts
| Situation | Risk | Fix to test |
|---|---|---|
| Low price, bulky product | Shipping takes the margin. | Bundle units or raise the average order value. |
| Free shipping offer | The offer converts but profit disappears. | Build shipping into the price and retest conversion. |
| Creator seeding | Sample shipping quietly grows. | Cap samples until one angle shows traction. |
| Fragile item | Damage and replacement costs rise. | Add a return reserve before calling it profitable. |
One useful test
Run the product twice in your model: once with normal shipping and once with a worst-case shipping number. If the second version is instantly unprofitable, the product needs a tighter test budget.
