Checklist
TikTok Shop product research checklist
A viral product clip is only one signal. Before ordering samples, check whether the product has margin, a clear video angle, creator fit, and a return profile you can live with.
Score the product before you buy
| Check | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Margin | Still profitable after commission and returns | Only works with perfect assumptions |
| Video angle | Easy to show in the first three seconds | Needs a long explanation |
| Creator fit | Many creators can demo it naturally | Only one niche creator type works |
| Shipping | Small, sturdy, cheap to fulfill | Heavy, fragile, or size-sensitive |
| Returns | Low fit, quality, or expectation risk | High chance of disappointment |
The 10-minute filter
Put the product into the calculator. Then write one sentence for the video hook, one sentence for the buyer problem, and one reason a creator would want to post it. If any of those feel forced, do more research before ordering.
Do not skip boring checks
The boring checks are where money gets saved: unit cost, shipping, returns, packaging, and commission. A product can be exciting and still be a bad test if the numbers leave no room for mistakes.
Sources to check before launch
Fees, seller policies, and creator disclosure rules can change. Use ShopROAS for planning, then verify the live policy details before spending real money on inventory or paid traffic.
