Skincare example
$19.99 skincare item profit margin example
The price looks friendly, but claims and refunds need a conservative reserve. The numbers below are fictional, but the cost stack is the same one a TikTok Shop seller should check before ordering inventory.
Example numbers
| Selling price | $19.99 |
|---|---|
| Product cost | $4.95 |
| Shipping + packaging | $3.45 |
| Platform/payment fees | $1.40 |
| Creator commission | $3.60 |
| Ad spend per order | $2.75 |
| Return reserve | $1.25 |
| Estimated profit | $2.59 |
| Estimated margin | 13.0% |
What the math says
Only test if the copy stays modest and the supplier quality is already proven.
A useful rule: do not judge the product from gross margin alone. Put creator commission, ad spend, payment/platform fees, shipping, packaging, and return reserve into one view. That is where weak products usually reveal themselves.
Test notes
- Avoid medical or guaranteed-result language.
- Keep ingredient and usage information easy to find.
- Set aside more return buffer than you think you need.
Run your version
Model a higher return reserve before launch. Replace every example number with your supplier quote, packed shipping cost, expected creator cut, and your first ad budget.
