Kitchen example
$29.99 kitchen gadget profit margin example
Satisfying demos are useful, but bulky shipping can eat the win. The numbers below are fictional, but the cost stack is the same one a TikTok Shop seller should check before ordering inventory.
Example numbers
| Selling price | $29.99 |
|---|---|
| Product cost | $8.75 |
| Shipping + packaging | $5.60 |
| Platform/payment fees | $2.10 |
| Creator commission | $4.20 |
| Ad spend per order | $4.50 |
| Return reserve | $1.50 |
| Estimated profit | $3.34 |
| Estimated margin | 11.1% |
What the math says
A decent starter test if the packed item is light and the demo solves a real kitchen annoyance.
A useful rule: do not judge the product from gross margin alone. Put creator commission, ad spend, payment/platform fees, shipping, packaging, and return reserve into one view. That is where weak products usually reveal themselves.
Test notes
- Avoid oversized packaging in the first production run.
- Make one video around cleanup time saved.
- If shipping climbs by $2, retest the price before scaling.
Run your version
Run the packed-weight version of the numbers. Replace every example number with your supplier quote, packed shipping cost, expected creator cut, and your first ad budget.
