$34.99 home gadget profit margin example
Mid-price products feel safer until shipping weight shows up. The numbers below are fictional, but the cost stack is the same one a TikTok Shop seller should check before ordering inventory.
Example numbers
| Selling price | $34.99 |
|---|---|
| Product cost | $10.50 |
| Shipping + packaging | $5.60 |
| Platform/payment fees | $3.15 |
| Creator commission | $5.25 |
| Ad spend per order | $5.00 |
| Return reserve | $2.49 |
| Estimated profit | $3.00 |
| Estimated margin | 8.6% |
What the math says
Cleaner than a cheap accessory, but the margin still depends on freight, packaging, and refunds.
A useful rule: do not judge the product from gross margin alone. Put creator commission, ad spend, payment/platform fees, shipping, packaging, and return reserve into one view. That is where weak products usually reveal themselves.
Test notes
- Weigh the packed item, not just the product sample.
- Film one plain demo and one problem-solution demo.
- Set a hard ad cap until the first refund pattern appears.
Run your version
Check the margin with your real packed weight. Replace every example number with your supplier quote, packed shipping cost, expected creator cut, and your first ad budget.
